The morning started with reviewing the answers for the interview at the Civil Affairs Office which were just verbal responses to the data we had already supplied for the dossier. This was just the official part. We were ready after finishing the buffet breakfast again and we were off for our 8:30 AM appointment. We met a family in the dining room from Washington DC-the Curtis family adopting a 5 year old little girl. Pray for her--she was having a really difficult time adjusting. We arrived and the parking lot was much busier than Sunday afternoon. All marriage licenses and other official registration happen here in the Province capitol so it was typical Monday morning business during rush hour. Jack the Civil Affairs contact could not have been nicer! He spoke English well and honestly was a great host! Very kind man. |

The Orphanage Director and another officer with orphanage was there as well and again, these folks could not have been more kind and obviously cared a lot for their little ZhiBei. The Director took our email address and wants us to send photos. He has successfully been able to keep up with quite a few Zhangzhou families through the years. Levi responded to him with smiles and giggles. It is an amazing thing how folks from two countries such as ours can come together like we did today. We were blessed and can hardly wait to be able to begin to tell Levi his story. He was so very loved first by his mother who gave him a chance to get help and live a full life and then by the local authorities who cared for him and loved him. Pray for his nanny, that she will feel a peace that is a gift from above. |

We were so blessed to give them the gifts of appreciation as thankful expressions back to them for their kindness. Not only because of who they are, but because of what they had done for our son Levi. We prayed it was filled with a graciousness that was grace filled from the Hope we know as Life. Then off to the Notary Office to repeat the same process and sign more papers so that the passport could be completed before we leave Fuzhou and fly to Guangzhou on Friday. Again, the notary was a very kind man, but was processing other children after us. He sees many in the course of every day. And that was it for the paperwork! Now we await the Passport and the final papers completed. What an emotionally charged energetic morning. And it was over. |

So, what do you do after you just complete the paperwork and official documentation for the adoption to be complete? You go to WalMart. Yes, WalMart. OK so Disney is in Hong Kong and we do not have VISA's for Hong Kong. But Fuzhou has 3 WalMarts and 1 Sam's Club. WalMart came complete with a greeter and free samples throughout the frozen food section! Levi sat in his first of many grocery carts and took it all in stride. Found the reservoir of goodies an easy access behind him and did not hesitate to go for it. The food was very cultural and few things were familiar except the basic Coke, Pepsi and Hershey and Mars products. The best part of all was the escalator that was a ramp-grocery carts were allowed!! The store was about 4 floors in downtown Fuzhou. No falling prices signs, but the lines at checkout looked all too familiar. Some things with WalMart I can live without. |
