A Good day for Starbucks...

I have pound cake from Starbucks!

What a day!  We knew the Medical appointment had it's risks regarding stress.  Kids and doctors generally do not mix well.  Here's the scene.  A clinic that is full of people, both Adoptive Families and many immigrant paperwork being processed in this clinic.  Loud Chinese conversation only to be outdone by Americans trying to talk louder over even louder crying babies, toddlers and children.  Let me rephrase that.  Screaming, crying, wailing babies, toddlers and children.  These kids have been through so much already.  And now in close quarters and lots of white coats, surgical caps and masks.  Not to mention these kids have just begun ti get to know not only do not speak their language, are a little nervous and stressed out too.  Oh and not to mention that likely fact that the Chinese these folks are speaking makes no sense because it is not the dialect these kids know.  Whew.  And this was a light day!!!

Oh Boy!  Here we go . . .

Packed

Americans and children everywhere

This ain't so bad!

After being in this room and processing with all these families you are struck with several observations.

  • There's a lot of love in this room

  • These children do not begin to know yet how significant this moment in time is for them.

  • Neither do any of these families know what is ahead of them (us)

  • This is only a small fraction of children available

  • This is overwhelming

  • "Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

  • OK.  I need to recruit more families and help them know they can do this and make a difference.

  • We certainly feel like the LAST people that could do this and here we are doing this thing which is SOOOO beyond our limitations, capabilities, capacities, financial resources, faith, and everything else reasonable.

  • But it's the right thing to do.  Could not- have not done this.

  • If we had more biological children, we would not be here more than likely.

  • What makes all these families any different than anyone else?  Nothing.

  • Pray.  Bless these children.  Bless these families. Bless them.  Bless them.  Bless them

This is.

Honest.  It won't hurt.

More signing

It's over for now!

I used to wonder about the relevance of this song many of us learned as children in Sunday School.  Is it politically correct (PC) now?  Does it "say" the right message for children?  Well, I am thinking it's more profound than I thought.  We have to understand that what we teach children-we are teaching far more than what we may be saying and what we may think we are teaching.  What's the "hidden" message or lesson.   It can be positive or negative.  Still don't know how PC this song is, but when you find yourself in places like today, it comes to mind.  At least it did to mine!  Maybe Jesus is less concerned about being PC and more concerned about things that really matter.  Which, in the end, is far more respectful of an individual than one could ever be--by "being PC".

Here's the song--you know it:

"Jesus loves the little children.  All the children of the world.  Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight.  Jesus loves the children of the world....."
